OTLEY CARNIVAL SATURDAY, 20th JUNE 2009
NEWS FROM OTLEY CARNIVAL AT LAST THE SUN SMILED ON THE CARNIVAL! After two years of poor or disastrous weather the sun came out last Saturday and with it came the crowds. It is near impossible to estimate the number of spectators but several people with a long history of the event claimed that the numbers watching the parade and making their way to the showground were equal to any in the past which has been said to be over 20,000. The feed back from the 'regulars' was full of praise for the participants in the parade and the huge number of stalls and activities on the field. Above all, everyone seemed to really enjoy the occasion, especially the children. The number of floats, etc in the parade was slightly down on last year's anniversary event but the quality of entries remained high and the judges had a tough time deciding on the winners. The results of their efforts and the list of prizewinners are attached. Wendy Corden, Chairman of the Carnival Committee said: 'What a wonderful day! Everything seemed to go like clockwork and I would like to thank all those who took part as well as the thousands of people who came to watch and join in the fun. The length of the parade, the standard of the entries and the turn out of spectators made it a memorable day to match the super weather' ENDS For further information contact Geoff Wright on 01943-4651790
