NEXT OTLEY CARNIVAL SATURDAY, 19th JUNE 2010 NEWS FROM OTLEY CARNIVAL 16 November 2009 CARNIVAL QUEEN TO HELP TURN ON CHRISTMAS LIGHTS The Otley Carnival Queen, Helen Winpenny, will be assisting Tanya Arnold of BBC Look North in turning on the Otley Christmas lights on Wednesday 25th November at 7pm in the Market Place. Helen will be accompanied by her deputy, Sydney Blackwell, and assistants Sophie English, Imogen Leather, and Scarlett Hannan-Webber. BENIFICIARIES CHOSEN FOR THE 2O10 CARNIVAL Three local organisations have been selected by the Carnival Committee to benefit from next year's carnival, they are: Otley Museum - raising cash toward the cost of developing portable display materials to enable them to increase the visits they can make to local groups and take the Museum out to the community when they have to leave the Civic Center. Otley 2nd Scouts - needing money to go towards the costs of refurbishing the scout hut. Otley Methodist Church – seeking funds to help pay for alterations to the church foyer to make it more accessible for the elderly, the infirm and families and also to create a potential meeting room which could be booked by local groups. Last year the beneficiaries shared £3,000 and since 1983 the Carnival has raised around £60,000 for 70 different organisations. FUND RAISING STARTS WITH OTLEY FAYRE
The Carnival Committee will be running their ever popular children's tombola stall at the Fayre on Friday 11th December. Children always enjoy this event as every ticket drawn wins a prize – there are no losers as all the prizes have been donated by carnival supporters. LAST YEAR'S CARNIVAL PARADE NOW AVAILABLE ON DVD The carnival and the parade last year was comprehensively filmed and this is now available on DVD at a cost of £3.50 from Ann Steval on 01943-466995.
