NEWS FROM OTLEY CARNIVAL

13 April 2010

TIME TO BEGIN PLANNING FOR THE BIG DAY

Carnival day is only just over 2 months away and the committee members are involved in preparations for another super day for Otley residents and visitors - especially the children. As always, the success of the day depends on the help and support of many people from the town and the surrounding communities. Attached is a leaflet which highlights how people can help to make Saturday 19th June a very special day by:

Entering a float, vehicle or walking tableau in the parade. Most local schools entered last year as did several local charities, youth and community groups. The parade is also a very good opportunity for businesses or organisations to advertise and we will be happy to accept entries from anyone or anything which is decorated and it does not need to be local.

Details and entry form are available from Diana Allen on 01943-462498.

Providing a stall, sideshow or attraction in the Bridge End field (the show ground) which is where the parade ends up by around 2 pm on the day. The Carnival is a day for children and there will be many attractions to make for a great afternoon for the family. Many organisations set up a stall or other activity to raise funds for their cause or business.

Details and entry forms from June Galling on 01943- 467549.

How About Dressing up and Being a Collector for the Day! We are always seeking collectors to raise funds on the day. If you dress up you can win a prize as well as help make the day for many people. (min age of 16 unless accompanied by an adult). Contact Ann Steval on 10943-466995 if you are willing to help

Programmes and Raffle Tickets

The carnival programme is being prepared and will be on sale next month. Many local businesses have kindly taken out adverts in the this professionally produced programme and we are very grateful for their support.

The raffle tickets are available now from committee members or from representatives of this year's beneficiaries who are:

Otley Museum, Otley 2nd Scouts and Otley Methodist Church

Shop Window Dressing

During the next few weeks local shops will be approached to join in the fun by decorating their windows for the Carnival. There are several trophies to be won and judging will taken place on the Sunday before the event (13th June).
