NEWS FROM OTLEY CARNIVAL

26 October 2010

The Carnival Committee is once again starting the long process of building towards the next Carnival day which will be on Saturday 18th June 2011.

BENEFICIARIES CHOSEN FOR THE 2011 CARNIVAL

The Otley Carnival has raised over £65,000 for over 70 local organisations since its start in 1983.

Two local organisations have been selected by the Committee to benefit from next year's carnival, they are:

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance
It costs £2.6m a year to keep their two helicopters in the air. They receive no government funding and therefore rely on voluntary donations and sponsorship. They have a group of supporters in Otley and they have undertaken to help with the development of the carnival and fund raising.

Otley Science Festival
The first Festival was held in 2008 and is now an annual week long series of events taking place mainly at Otley Courthouse, Clifton Village Hall and several local schools. The aim is to raise the profile of scientific subjects of all kinds, to increase awareness and participation in a wide variety of scientific topics and interest children in scientific careers.

The 2010 Festival will take place next month and funding is sought to support the 2011 Festival.

FUND RAISING STARTS WITH THE VICTORIAN FAYRE
The Carnival Committee will be running their ever popular children's tombola stall at the Fayre on Sunday 12 December.
