OTLEY CARNIVAL SATURDAY, 18th JUNE 2011 NEWS FROM OTLEY CARNIVAL
26 April 2011 PLANNING FOR A BIG DAY ON SATURDAY 18TH JUNE The carnival day is only 7 weeks away from next Saturday and many people are involved in preparations for another great day for residents and visitors especially the children. Every year the success of the day depends on the help and support of many people from Otley and the surrounding communities there are many ways of providing that help and support such as: Entering a float, vehicle or walking tableau in the parade. Most local schools entered last year as did many local charities, youth or community groups and local businesses. Entering the parade is a very good opportunity for businesses or organisations to advertise and we will be delighted to accept entries from anyone or anything which is decorated and not necessarily local. So far some 13 floats/tableau have entered this year together with 10 bands and several vehicles but we would like many more!. Details and entry forms are available from Diana Allen on 01943-462498. Providing a stall, sideshow or attraction in the Bridge End Showground Field. The parade followed by masses of spectators end up in this field where there are many attractions to make for a wonderful afternoon for the family. Many organisations set up a stall or other activity to raise funds for their cause or business. Details and entry forms are available from June Galling on 01943-467549. YORKSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE An exciting feature this year will be the presence of one of the two air ambulances run by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance who are one of the beneficiaries from this year's carnival. Depending on operational requirements their helicopter will arrive in the early afternoon landing in the field next to the showground and the crew – the pilot and two paramedics - as well as support staff, will be available to talk to visitors and answer questions. The second beneficiary from this year's carnival is the Otley Science Festival. PROGRAMMES AND RAFFLE TICKETS The Carnival programme will be available next month at a price of only £1 from several different outlets. Many local businesses have kindly taken out adverts in the professionally produced programme and we are very grateful for that support.
