NEWS FROM OTLEY CARNIVAL Press release from
Otley Carnival May 2014
OTLEY CARNIVAL SATURDAY 21st JUNE 2014 May Press Release Preparations are in full
swing for the 2014 Otley Carnival to be held on Saturday 21st June.
The entries taking part in one of the largest Carnival Parades will include 8
Bands and 21 Floats and Walking Groups, plus a group of cyclists from Otley
Cycle Club who will be heading the Parade and the parade will end with a Fire
Engine. In addition to the main competitions for floats and walking groups, the Carnival committee awards trophies to the Street Collector wearing the best fancy dress and to the collectors who collect the most money. This year one of our stalwart collectors, Pat Marriot, who has regularly won trophies in her magnificent costumes, is unable to attend, so these categories will be wide open to anyone who would like to join in the fun on Carnival day. The street collection is one of the main ways the Carnival raises money for their chosen Beneficiaries and there is no doubt that it is the collectors in fancy dress who collect most money. To join the Parade in fancy dress and collect on behalf of the 2014 Carnival Beneficiaries, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Otley Action for Older People and Otley Children’s Centre, simply report to the Leeds Road Auction Mart by noon on Carnival day, where your costume will be judged and you will be issued with your collecting tin or contact Ann Steval on 01943 466995 for more information.
