OTLEY CYCLE CLUB

There also used to be an Otley Cylcing Club many years ago, and the rivalry between the two organisations meant that the Clubs name was very significant, and even today, our senior members feel that we should use the correct name.

The Club was formed in 1927, and after being "itinerant" for many years, bought its present Club House, ie. Wellcroft House, Crow Lane, Otley, in 1983.

These premises have recently been extended and re-furbished to cater better for the Clubs activities, as well as now being the home of the "Ron Kitchin Library & Memorabelia Collection"

The Club House is also available for hire by other well established and responsible organisations who may require such premises for their meetings etc.

Details can be obtained from the Club Secretary, see below.

Otley Cycle Club is a friendly and social organisation, with approx. 150 members from Otley and the surrounding districts, including Bradford, Leeds, Skipton, and Harrogate etc.

We have 3 Sections, enabling us to cater for most abilities, and although many of our members are also Mountain Bike riders, the Clubs main interest is in Road Riding, ranging from steady Sunday runs up through the spectrum to Racing levels.

All year round. the Sunday runs meet at the Buttercross in the Otley Market Place, and usually depart just after 9.00 am., with mileages for the day ranging from 30 / 40 miles up to 90 / 120 miles, depending on the time of year and the Section involved.

During the Summer, we also have Wednesday Evening Runs for prospective new members, or for anyone who wishes to sample a "Taster" of Club Riding. These Wednesday runs also meet at the Buttercross, with a prompt depart time of 7.00 pm. The mileage for the runs would be between 10 & 20 miles, depending upon the weather, and the abilities of the riders concerned.

The Club, as well as having a well established "Social" aspect, has a very’ strong Racing side to it for those who are so inclined, with many of our members racing in Time Trials and / or Road Races during the Summer season, and some taking part in Cvclo Cross and or Mountain Bike Races during the Winter.

Working on the basis of "What you put in, you get out", the Club organises many Races during the vear such as weekly Time Trials round the "Pool Triangle", various Road Races including the prestigious "Otley Town Centre Road Race" during August, and the 2 Stage Hill Climb (Norwood Edge & East Chevin) in October.

During the winter months we have various Social Evenings and / or Technical Talks, as well as "Gentle Keep Fit" sessions each Monday evening and Turbo Training sessions each Tuesday evening.
