Trip
to Sledmere House and Bridlington
The
Sykes family of Sledmere House in the Yorkshire Wolds
welcome (throughout the year) people of a variety of interests. From April to
December these interests encompass, Gardening,
Nostalgia, Classic Cars, Music, Theatre, Country Activities and Food. But on
Thursday 18th June they welcomed members of Otley Men’s Forum and
their wives. The beauty of the gardens and the surrounding countryside were
enhanced by Sledmere House and its decorations;
the library being a particular highlight. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic
ladies conducted tours of the premises that were viewed with delight by our
members and friends. Unfortunately the time at Sledmere
passed very quickly and after lunch we moved on to Bridlington. What a
contrast! Before we set off to
return to Otley the following rhetorical question was asked on numerous
occasions. Will this kind of resort survive?
We
must again thank Brian Dexter for organising this trip which he did
efficiently and most importantly, economically.
This
was the last event of our 2008- 2009 session, we
start our 2009-2010 series of meetings on Thursday 10th September.
We hope to be in Otley Civic Centre again but should that close we will
probably be at Otley Rugby Union Football Club. A notice will be posted nearer
the time when we have definite information about the Civic Centre.
