Annual Outing
Once
again we ended our session of talks with a coach outing for members, their
wives and this year the Ladies Forum.
Almost
unanimously we chose to visit Chatsworth House on Thursday 17th
June. Our choice was the correct one as the coach places were quickly sold
with all the places taken two weeks before the visit.
We
also, not knowingly, chose the correct day. The weather was perfect, we saw
Derbyshire at its best in glorious warm sunshine. Brian Dexter had worked
miracles and got the combined price of coach and entry fees down to a level
that would have suited most
Yorkshire
men and a very happy band left Otley to see the Devonshires
abode at Chatsworth.
Fine gardens with water fountains and waterfalls set in beautiful
surroundings on a large estate of grassland, that lacked flowers, is
an accurate description of the external features we enjoyed. Restaurants,
snack bars and ice cream stalls were well patronised and most people enjoyed
their visit to the house that contained many paintings from simple portraits
to a couple of Caravaggio’s and numerous pieces of ancient furniture.
So
that was it until the 9th September 2010 when we again congregate
at the
Methodist
Church
for a talk about the “The Life and Career of Eddie Waring”
by his son Mr H Waring.
