Welcome to the Otley in Bloom website. In these pages we'll show you some of the exciting projects and activities that we as a Group take part in.
On this website you can read about
how the group was formed
and review its
main areas of work.
You can share our pleasure about winning a number of
Awards
and find out about the success we've had with our
fundraising and grants.
We always have a challenging array of
projects
on the go and rely on a great deal of voluntary effort to complete them - perhaps you'd like to join us for some of these.

The Otley Town Enhancement Study
was a major piece of work for the group and there's a section which describes this contribution to the town and the projects that are being done as a result of it.
Look at our
Gallery
and sample some of the
Meeting Minutes
if you'd like to learn a little more about our work.
We've included some useful
links
and there's some information about
how to get in touch
with us.

The information on these pages changes from time to time as we make progress with our plans so you might want to come back and visit the site again. You'll see we've included some monthly gardening tips as well.
In addition, the banners and inset floral images on this website change with the seasons.
And in fact each time you visit a page - or refresh it - you'll be shown new images from our collection.
As a group we have an offical
Constitution
which describes how we go about our work and a set of
Notices
which shows in more detail the office holders and key dates for this year.

Yorkshire in Bloom Competition
|
|
Otley in Bloom (OiB) has again entered the Town category of the Yorkshire in Bloom competition. This involves encouraging residents and businesses to do their bit and help create a sense of civic pride. We are therefore urging everyone in Otley to keep their outdoor spaces neat and tidy and perhaps add a splash of natural colour to make a difference.
In 2008 Yorkshire in Bloom (YiB) awarded Otley Silver in the Town category and the Whartons Primary School Silver in the Schools category. In the running up to the judging day on Tuesday 24 March, OiB calls for help from businesses by making sure that the front of their premises are free from litter and that last years dead floral displays have been removed.
Businesses can also join the competitive spirit - and possibly get some free press coverage - by entering for the Leeds in Bloom business competition.
In 2008 Leeds in Bloom handed out four awards to the following Otley based businesses:
- Gold - Otley Golf Club
- Silver - Kirkgate Arcade, Courtyard Planters
- Bronze - Patsy’s Wicca Basket

And it's good for business...

One of last years winners commented in the Wharfedale & Airedale Observer; "If the outside of your shop looks well cared for, people have the confidence that you care about what is inside as well". Call the Leeds Floral Initiative on 0113 2375 301 for an entry form. A number of Otley businesses have already entered.
Keen gardeners and allotment holders can also compete by entering the Otley Town Council Garden and Allotment competition. See the local press in summer for details.
We in fact have a lot of fun on the clear up days -- and its really great to see corners of the town which are much improved in the process. Why not get in touch with our co-ordinator and lend a hand yourself?
