Recognition for our work

The Otley in Bloom group has worked hard over the years to improve the green spaces in the town.
This effort has been recognised in a number of ways. Right from the start we received positive comment about our work from residents and local businesses and then when we entered for the regional 'In Bloom' competition we were delighted to win some awards.

Shown here are some of the awards we've received - and we're happy to share our success with all of the people who've helped the town to achieve this accolade. Many of these awards and certificates are on display in the Otley Civic Hall.

In 2004 we entered Otley in the 'Large Town' category of the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
Judging for this competition happens both in Spring and in Summer - and based on these results there's an overall winner for the year.

We were thrilled to win both the Spring and Summer judging which gave us the first place position for the whole year. The winner's trophy is on display in the Civic Centre.

In 2005 we again entered Otley into the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
This time we came first in the Spring judging and second in the Summer.

This gave us an excellent second place for the year overall.
Also in 2005 we were also awarded the Richard Good Trophy by Otley Town Council for our services to the town and our Community Spirit.

This trophy is a lovely glass bowl showing the Otley in Bloom name engraved on the side. It is now on display in the Civic Centre.

In 2006 we worked really hard to tidy up the town - to get it ready for a new round of judging. In this year the judging system was changed and this meant a new set of targets to meet. Under the enthusiastic eye of our Yorkshire in Bloom Co-Ordinator the Group spent a lots of time clearing and tidying.

We achieved a very welcome Silver Award.
. As one of the winners in the regional 'Yorkshire in Bloom' competition in 2006, the Otley in Bloom group was invited to submit a formal exhibit in the 'Container' competition.

The design and the plants were provided by one of our key sponsors - Courtyard Planters of Westgate in Otley.    Against a stiff field we were most pleased to win a prestigious Silver Award.

The planter has returned to Otley and can now be seen on the pedestrian island in Manor Square. There's an engraved plaque on the side of the planter so you know which one it is.
Here are some photos taken during the creation of our prize winning exhibit:

In 2007 we advertised in the local papers for volunteers to help clean up the town. We attracted quite a frew new members and were able to tackle some 'grot-spots' and untidy corners.

Our efforts were repaid with an excellent Silver Award for the year overall.
